My Music Recital 2015

Today the pupils of Bev Perett performed and showed their musical talents. I did 2 performances playing the keyboard and singing for one and playing piano and singing for the other one. The first song I played on the keyboard and sang along with Siobhan (Guitar and Vocals) and Katelyn (Guitar). We played Lighthouse by G.R.L. We did really well and below I have a video of our performance.
The second performance I did was my Individual song where I sang and played the piano to skinny love by Birdie. I had a lot of fun doing the song and I am very happy that I didn't stuff up!(well except for the end!) Here is the videos of both of my performances that I hope you will enjoy. Comment if you would like to see more of my music. Credits to my family for the videoing.

MOA awards

On Tuesday night it happened. Auroa, Opunake, Matapu and Kaponga Schools competed in the MOA awards held at Sandfords Events Centre in Opunake. MOA Awards is a big event where kids from all 4 schools enter in categories that get judged by people all over the world. The Catergories are Best short movie, Best Music Video, Best Original Image, Best Graphic Design, Best Te Ao Maori, Best Book Trailer, Best Blog, Best educational video And the principal wildcard . Then out of all those Catergories they choose best acter/actress/performer and best narrator and of course the surpreme award. There is Catergories for Junior, intermediate and senior levels. Everyone from the different schools entered in the Catergories and the top 4 got chosen to be the finalists. I was lucky enough to be the finalist in 2 Catergories, best blog and the principal wildcard where Mr Chittenden (Auroa's Principal) got to choose someone who didn't originally get in from the judges and put someone into the wildcard category and so he put my music video in the chance to win. On the night the Sandfords Centre was packed to the brim with nearly 700 people coming to see the big night. Auroa did very well on the night winning a lot of Catergories and also taking out the surpreme award but what I am most proud of is that I won both of my Catergories. I won for senior best blog And also won the wildcard category. Overall if was a really great night and I am really proud that I got to win something and hopefully I can win something again next year. Here is the photos of the trophies I won on the night:

Senior Maths Day

On Tuesday all the senior classes from Auroa School came  together for a competition to see who was best at doing maths grids and a game called kahoot.

First up there was the grids where four people from each senior class had to complete a 6 by 6 multiplication grid. The fastest time would win. In our team there was Joe, Caleb, Astin and I. It was very hard and I managed to get 100% in the time of 1.10. My sister Jorja got a time of 1.11 so I just bet her. It was a lot of fun and some kids came in a time of 40secs!

Secondly there was the Kahoot competition. Four kids from each senior class has to get some quickfired answers chucked at them and you had to get the right answer out of a multichoice of 4 answers. The only problem was everyone was doing those quickfire answers at the same time so if you got it wrong and they got it right they would be higher up the leader board. Kaiah Bloor from Room 1 took that competition out. Below there is a slideshow of the action.

Academic Achievements

On Friday Lexi, Meg, Kaiah Bloor and I competed in the  Roald Dahl quiz held in the Hawera Library Plus. There was six other schools to compete with but the Magic Matildas (us) managed to be on top with 103 points. We were asked a range of different questions and it was very hard but we ended up with a win. We were very happy and I hope to do it again next year. The Trophy we received was full of the winners before hand. It turns out that Auroa had actually won it in 2007 as well so it was great to see that we had been participating before hand.On the right hand side there is the trophy we had won for being the victors.

Also on Friday in assembly I received 3 other achievements.I got principal pick of the week for doing well in the Roald Dahl quiz, I got participation in the Otago Maths Problem challenges that was held throughout the year and also a certificate for completing and getting merit in the ICAS writng test which is held in Australia and New Zealand. I was very proud to have done well in all of them.

Mt. Spa Cross Country

On Thursday we had Mt. Spa cross country held at the Maniaia Golf Course. The ages from 8 up competed in it and the top 10 in each age group would go through to Taranaki cross country (held next Wednesday) There was some fantastic running. In my race I came 9th which means I am hopefully through to Taranaki. Here is a video some kids made from room 3.

Science Fair

On Wednesday we had the Auroa Science Fair. We had been working on projects in Terms 2 and 3 and presented them to the parents. Lexi (My friend) and I did a science investigation on what is the best conditions to grow plants. We put three different plants (Radishes, Chives, and Pansies ) I three different areas. We wanted to see which plants grew the best in which area. It was amazing to see what the other classes produced and what science experiments they did. I hope to do the science fair again some time it was great fun.

Kizoa slideshow: Golf 2015 - Slideshow

On Monday and Tuesday some people from Taranaki Golf came to Auroa school and taught us some skills. It was a lot of fun and I loved it a lot. Here is a Kizoa of my class learning some skills.

Methanex Maths Fair Spectacular

Last Friday night there was the Metanex Maths Spectacular which is held in the Pukekura Raceway,New Plymouth. It is a big maths fair where kids from schools all over Taranaki can put a fair entry in the competition or compete in the maths quiz. There were prizes for the winners. I along with Joe, Astin, and Jordan competed in the year 7 quiz, Representing Auroa School.

We had 30 mins to complete 20 questions. Just for fun they added in a parent team. Overall there were 24 teams. It was very hard to answer some of the questions that were given to us but we worked as a team and managed to work out 11 question in the maximum time of 30 mins. It was very nerve-racking when the results were being called, hoping that we were in the top 3.

It was so nail bitingly close but unfortunately we were pipped at the post coming 4th by only 4 points. We were a little disappointed that we didn't get in the top 3 and get a prize, but we were very proud that we bet 19 other teams that were in the race. Hopefully I can get to do it again.

My Music Recital

Every year for the children that have musical tuition with Mrs. Perrett play in a recital at the end of the year. I have been learning with Mrs. Perrett for 4 years now and have become quite skilled at singing and playing the piano. It is a lot of fun to get up and play the piano and sing. I am always a little bit nervous and stumble at the start but I eventually make a good performance that everyone in the audience enjoys. In 2013 Lexi (who played the ukelele with me) and I was good enough to present our song and sing and play it at our school prize giving. In 2014 I played the song Let it go by Demi Lovato that is featured in the movie Frozen. Here is the video of the recital that my family caught on camera. Write a comment below if you would like to see more of  my music.

Kate Sheppard Report

Here is my report on Kate Sheppard, who is a NZ suffragette;

Introduction

Many people have seen her on the ten dollar note. But she is most remembered by giving women the right to vote. She was the country's most famous suffragette. With help from other women she helped New Zealand be the first country to introduce universal suffrage. But there is more to Kate Sheppard than being a suffragette.
Early Life
Kate Sheppard was born on the 10th of March, 1847 in Liverpool, England, with the maiden name Catherine Wilson Malcolm. She lived with her uncle for many years. After living in scotland for 35 years, Shortly after her father died, her and her siblings immigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand. After two years living in New Zealand, She married Walter Sheppard and settled down with 1 child called Douglas Sheppard. Then began her time as a suffragette.
Suffragette
She began her time as a suffragette in 1885. The main reason she joined was to give New Zealand woman the right to vote. After 2 years fighting for the right, Kate helped introduce the first suffragette bill in 1887. In 1888 she began getting busy publishing a pamphlet entitled "Ten reasons why the women of N.Z have the right to vote". After many years waiting, in 1891 the Temperance Union presented a petition in favour of women's suffrage to Parliament.
Later Life
After succeeding for woman's suffrage, In 1903 Kate stepped down from her positions at the National Council of Women due to ill health. She went back to england with her husband for retirement. On the way she went to Canada and met American suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt. After her husband died in England she ventured back to New Zealand in 1904. Even though she didn't have her former energy, she continued to influence the New Zealand Women's movement to a great extent. Sadly Kate Sheppard died in Christchurch on 13th July 1934.
Commeration:
A memorial to her exists in Christchurch, and has her face on the New Zealand $10.00 note. There is also a street in Wellington's Parliament precinct is named after her. Several New Zealand have houses named after her.
Conclusion:
Kate Sheppard is known all over the world for everything she done for New Zealand. She will always be remembered as New Zealand's most famous suffragette.

Book of the week

This weeks book of the week goes to: My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult. It was a brilliant book that I never wanted to put down. Here is the blurb of the story to tell you a little bit about it:
Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate - a life and a role that she has never questioned… until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister - and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable… a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

This is a very touching book but I highly reccomend it for 11+ years old. I give this book 9/10. I would definitely read it again. Get your own copy from your local book shop now!

Hockey Tournament

On Saturday we had a hockey tournament to decide who will take victory for 2015. Our team fought hard be we managed to get 4th. In our first game we lost to Ngaire 1-0 as they scored a goal in the last few nail biting minutes. We had to play in the freezing cold in the first  2 games, my fingers were so numb I couldn't even feel my hands. We even had to play through hail! In the second game we played South and managed to win that game 1-0. It began to clear up in the 3rd game and we had yet another close game against St. Jospeshs but unfortunately lost again 1-0. It got tougher in the last 2 games but we managed to grab another win, but had yet another bad defeat. I was really proud of our team and I am so lucky to be apart of it.
